This course is designed to
teach both adult and
pediatric (infant/child) lay
rescuer CPR to middle or
high school students. The
course presents information
about the AHA adult Chain of
Survival and signs of heart
attack, cardiac arrest,
stroke, and choking adults.
The course also includes
information about healthy
heart living and actions to
reduce the risk of
cardiovascular disease in
adults. The course also
provides information about
the AHA infant & child Chain
of Survival, signs of
choking in infants &
children, prevention of
sudden infant death
syndrome, and prevention of
the most common fatal
injuries in infants and
children. It teaches
rescuers skills in CPR and
relief of foreign-body
airway obstruction (FBAO).
The AHA developed the curriculum
for Heartsaver CPR in Schools to
achieve one ultimate objective:
to increase survival from
cardiac arrest by increasing the
number of rescuers prepared to
phone 911 and provide early CPR.
